Dear all
Just to let you know that I will be giving feedback at the H building at 2:30 pm.
See you there
Projects Content and Order
Dear Students
The tables below will show you what your project MUST have and the order in which the docment is supposed to be organized. Therefore, make sure that for the next semester you must have both documents, the feedback and the final version correct to hand in.

Ethical considerations
Dear all
Here are the ethical considerations. As you will see they are different from the ones you didI had to send you this one becuase most of the one I recievied were harder to polished than to do everything again.
Asegurarse que todos los parafos se conecten entre si y además que cada uno se conecte con el estudio o proyecto de clase
Make sure you include this at the end of the methodology
INTRODUCTION
When researchers are planning and conducting a study, as well as in
reporting research findings, they have to fulfill several obligations in order to
meet the ethical standards. Primary, the research project must be planned so
that the possibility for misleading results is minimized. Subsequently, the
project must be planned so that it meets ethical acceptability. Any doubts the
researcher may have regarding questionable ethical procedures or methods must
be resolved through peer review or through consultation and finally, steps must
be taken to protect and ensure the dignity and welfare of all participants, as
well as those who may be affected by the results of the research project.
Due to the fact that interests can be affected directly and indirectly
as consequence of research; it can be direct, when a particular individual is
identifiable by others in a research report and negative consequences result
from aspects of the research becoming public. It can also be indirect, as when
a family has to pay more money to support the education of its children because
school resourcing has been cut by policies rationalized by findings of a
research study.
INFORMED
CONSENT
The principle of informed consent is for the researcher to
provide all available information about the study, including risks, which may
involved, so that each individual can make a rational and informed decision as
to whether they would like to participate (gravetter & forzano, 2003; 67).
the respondents were minors (two students per grade of high school between ten
and seventeen years of age) ; therefore obtaining written
consent from the coordinators and principals of the school was necessary. due
to the sentitive nature of the study, informed consent from the school principals were resquested in
order to conduct interviews, fill questionnaires and conduct observations. the
data collection took place during school hours and therefore there was the
legal guardian who gave us permission to conduct the research.
OBTAIN INFORMED CONSENT
Participants need to give their informed consent regarding their
participation in the project. In other words, it is necessary to have the
acceptance of the participants, and it implies informing them about the nature
of the project, their role in this research. The participants must be aware of
the general aims of the study and what it will involve. Consent should extent
to include publications that may grow out the study. It means that the
objective is to reinforce the nature of the project. On the other hand, if the
participants are in a early age, it is necessary to inform their parents about
the nature of the project. Finally, two types of statement are required to
obtain consent: first, a form signed by the participants accepting the
research; second, an information letter about the conditions and the main
objectives of the research, and it must be written in a understandable letter
for the participants. This consent also must be obtained form the school
principal or head boss, depending on the researcher circumstance.
AVOID
DECEPTION
It
is crucial that research does not trick students into participating in a study,
or into thinking that the research will focus on one thing when it actually
focuses on another. The practice of obtaining informed consent and providing
clear and comprehensive information about the study and the guarantees extended
to participants helps safeguard against unwitting corner- cutting.
Cohen
et al (2000:63) distinguish between first and second order deception. First
deception involves hiding the whole truth from subjects about the true purpose
and conditions of the research. Second deception is where researches allow
individual to believe they are acting as researches when actually they are
serving as subjects. In addition, Cohen and colleagues state kedman’s (1967)
suggestions to avoid deception. Firstly, we need to be aware that exist a
research problem and secondly, we need to minimize any negative deception from
the participants.
AVOID COERCION OR MANIPULATION
Teacher
researchers must be cautious when working in a research project with student
researches subjects since students can feel manipulated and as a consequence
they act to please those teacher researches; that is to say, the collected data
can be affected with no real information which in hence will not be effective
for further study.
MINIMIZE
INTRUSION
All
the projects carried out or that involves participation of human beings is in
some extent an intrusive activity due to the fact that the lives of the
participants are different in some level. Consequently as researchers, in order
to minimize this intrusion we have to avoid impositions that do not contribute
productively to the research purpose, we need to have our purposes clear, be
honest with the participants about the information that is going to be
collected and make participants feel comfortable in the development of the
research.
DEMONSTRATING RESPECT TO PARTICIPANTS
Demonstrating respect for the students is an important attribute to show
during formal research. This helps maintaining a trustworthy relationship with
them that will allow both parties to have a better performance. Respecting
input shared by the participants benefits the results of the studies such
respect includes not to ask them to discuss personal aspects of their lives in
which they feel their sense of privacy is being exposed, that is to say, to
intrude unnecessarily into their religious or moral lives. One of the ways in
which respect could be harm is when the results of the research are being
presented. If the researcher feels uneasy by showing a part of the report to
the participants this might be a potential signal something must be rewritten
in order to avoid future inconveniences. Demonstrating respect for participants,
if quite vital to our research in the sense we as researchers must be conscious
we do not intend to cause a negative impact with the results of our research
but to raise awareness on the state of the art of English teaching in
Risaralda.
